LEON:

「What's your name?」

MATHILDA:

「Mathilda.」

 

LEON:

「Sorry about your father．」

お父さんお気の毒に。

 

MATHILDA: 

「if somebody didn't do it one day or another I would've probably done it myself.」

誰もやらないなら、いつか自分がやったわ。

 

LEON:

「Your mother, she ..」

お母さんは、

 

MATHILDA: 

「(She)'s not my mother. My sister, she wanted to lose some weight anyway. But she never looked better. Not even my real sister. Just a half-sister, and not a good half at that.」

母じゃないわ。姉はどうにか体重を減らしたかっただけ。でも結局きれいにはならなかった。それに本当の姉じゃないわ。腹違いで、同じところはないわ。

 

LEON: 

「If you couldn't stand them, why are you crying?」

我慢できないぐらいなら、なぜ泣いている？

 

MATHILDA: 

「Because they killed my brother. What the hell did he do? He’s four years old. He never used to cry, just used to sit next to me and cuddle. I was more of amother to him than that goddamned pig ever was.」

弟を殺したから。彼が何をしたって言うの？まだ４歳よ。泣かない(=よく笑う)子でいつも隣に座っては抱いてきたわ。私はクソ豚の母よりは優しかったわ。

 

LEON: 

「Hey, don't talk like that about pigs. They're usually much nicer than people.

おい、豚のことを悪くいっちゃダメだ。豚は人間よりもずっとマシなんだ。」

 

MATHILDA:

「But they smell like shit.」

でも臭いわ。

 

LEON: [shakes his finger]

「Not true. As a matter of fact, right now I have one in my kitchen. That's very clean smells very nice.」

それは違う。本当言うと台所に豚がいるんだ。とてもきれいでいい香りがするんだ。

 

MATHILDA: 

「You don't have a pig in your kitchen.」

台所に豚なんかいないわ。

 

LEON: 

「Yes I do.」

いるよ。

 

MATHILDA::

「I was just in there and I didn't see any goddamned pig.」

さっき台所にいたのよ、豚なんか見なかったわ。

 

LEON: 

「Don't move, I'll get him. Piggy! Piggy, where are you? Ah, there you are. Hi Mathilda.」

待ってろ、連れてくるから。おーい、ぶたさん、どこに行ったんだ。なんだ、そこにいたのか。 ,,,やあマチルダ。

Piggy:愛称を込めて豚を呼ぶときに使います。Doggy:わんちゃん、Kitty:にゃんこ、Froggy:けろっぴ

MATHILDA: [a little consoled]

「Hi Piggy.」

こんにちは、ぶたさん。

 

LEON: [still playing]

「Hi.How are you today?」

ご、ご、きげんはいかが？

 

MATHILDA:

「I've seen better days.」

とてもつらいわ。

I have seen better days.「昔もっと良い日を見たことがある（＝今は一番つらい）」

LEON: [continues grunting a little, then starts feeling uncomfortable about his question]

MATHILDA:

「What's your name?」

あなた、名前は？

 

LEON:

「Leon.」

レオンだよ。

 

MATHILDA: [her eyes fixed on him]

「Cute name.」

かわいい名前ね。

Cute name.「かわいい(=charming)名前だね。」普通この表現を子供はくどき文句として使いません。

LEON: [spills a whole glass of milk over his face]

「Do you have anyone you can go to, any family, any place else?」

どこか行くところは？親戚とかどこか？

 

MATHILDA: [shakes her head]

 

LEON: [sighs, notices that there is no milk left]

「I'm gonna get some more milk.」

ミルクを取ってくる。

 

MATHILDA: [finds a bullet, opens the box next to her containing Leon's equipment]

「Oh shit.」

わぁ、すごい。

 

LEON: [returns with milk, closes the box and sits down]

「Don't touch that, please.」

触らないでくれ、頼む。

 

MATHILDA: 

「Leon, what exactly do you do for a living?」

レオン、あなた何をしているの？

 

LEON: [uncomfortable]

「Cleaner.」

掃除人だ。

 

MATHILDA: 

「You mean you're a hitman?」

殺し屋ってこと？

 

LEON:

「Yeah.」

ああ。

 

MATHILDA: 

「Cool.」

すてき。

 

LEON: [surprised look]

 

MATHILDA: [pours him a glass of milk]

「You clean anyone?」

誰でも掃除するの？

 

LEON:

「No women, no kids, that's the rules.」

女と子どもはやらない。ルールだ。

 

MATHILDA:

「How much would it cost to hire someone to get those dirt bags who killed my brother?」

弟を殺した汚い獲物をやるには、いくらかかるの。

get:難しい単語ですね。自分の手の中にいれるぐらいの意味　*bag:獲物

LEON: 

「Five grand a head.」

一人５千だ。*grand:千

 

MATHILDA: 

「Wow. How about this? I work for you, and in exchange, you teach me how to clean. Hm? What do you think? I'll clean your place, I'll do the shopping, I'll even wash your clothes. Is it a deal?」

これはどう？あなたの為に働くわ。その代わりに私に殺し方を教えて。どう？部屋の掃除、買い物、洗濯もするわ。取引成立？

deal. （商）取引

LEON:

「No, it's not a deal.」

ダメだ。取引しない。

 

MATHILDA: [grieved]

「What do you want me to do, hm? I've got no place to go.」

私はどうすればいいの？帰るところはどこもないわ。

 

LEON:

「You've had a rough day today. Go to sleep and we'll see tomorrow, okay?」

今日はとんでもない日だったな。もう寝ろ、明日にしよう。

 

[in the sleeping room]

 

LEON: [awkwardly covers Mathilda with a blanket]

MATHILDA: 

「You've been really great with me, Leon. And it’s not always like that, y' know?」

[embraces two of his fingers]

「Good night.」

あなたってとってもよかったわ。いつもそうじゃないから。本当に。おやすみ。

G'night=Good night.

LEON: [confused, switches the lights off and leaves the room]

 

[Leon sits in the darkness, unable to sleep; stands up, puts a silencer on a gun and enters Mathilda:'s room, determined; aims, but can't do it; goes away again]
