基本的なシステムは過去に開催されたゴブラーの年、ヴァーグの年、ブタの王様の年と同様で、イベントアイテムは奉納タブから作成することで得られます。ただし今回は作成できるアイテムが一部変更・追加され、アイテムの素材である幸運の金塊を手に入れる条件が変更されています。
イベント期間外もこのイベントを行いたいときはワールド設定で「Seasonal Events」の項目を「Year of the Carrat」に設定してサーバーを建てましょう。

Carrat Shrine（キャラットの社）はPrototypers & Stations Filter、Structures Filter、Special Event Filterから作成できる建造物であり、作成には金塊8つと板2つ必要です。プロトタイプを作成する必要は無く、いつでも作成可能です。ここにニンジンや種を供えることで社は「稼働」状態となり、近くに立つとOfferings Filterを開くことができます。ここで通常の金塊やイベントアイテムである幸運の金塊を使って様々なアイテムを作成することができます。レースで金塊を貰える状態（まだその日のレースを開催していない状態）では社が赤い袋を担いだキャラットのデザインに変わります。

Carrat Race[]
イベント中、幸運の金塊を得るためにはキャラットをレースに参加させる必要があります。レースの開催にはスタート地点とゴール地点を設置する必要があります（ただし、あまりにも距離が離れていると無効となる）。この2つを設置した後、スタート地点にキャラットを置き右クリックで銅鑼を鳴らすことでスタートします。
レースは参加キャラットが1匹からでも始められます。その際は3匹のチャーリーのキャラットが参加します。レースが始まるとキャラット達はゴールに向かって走りますが、途中でチェックポイントがある場合は一番近くにあるチェックポイントを目指して走ります。そして全てのチェックポイントを通った後キャラットはゴールへと向かいます。
レースに参加すると一日一回赤い袋を貰えます。全てのキャラットは参加賞として幸運の金塊が1個入った小さな赤い袋が貰えます。優勝したキャラットはコースの長さに応じて2～12個の幸運の金塊が入った大きな赤い袋を受け取れます。（コースが4.5ターフ長くなるごとに優勝時に貰える金塊が1個ずつ増える）

Carrat（キャラット）はDon't Starve Togetherの「Return of Them」アップデートにて追加されたモブです。月の島バイオームに生息し、普段は地面に潜ってニンジンに擬態しています。捕獲する場合は罠を使って捕らえると回収時そのままインベントリに移動します。地面に潜っているのをショベルで掘り起こせばその場でしばらくもがいているので、その間に右クリックで回収することができます。
キャラットの年のイベント期間中は社から金塊4つで購入することができます。また、イベント期間中は毎夜33%の確率でキャラットがビーファローの群れから出現するようになります（普段は姿を現さず、ビーファローに潜り込んでいる）。昼～夕方になれば時折顔を出すようになるのでどのビーファローに潜り込んでいるか把握できます。近くに種があれば一旦降りて種を食べに行った後、再び別のビーファローに乗り込みます。これを利用して、罠に種を仕掛けておけば月の島に行ったりしなくても野生のキャラットを捕らえることができます。乗り込み先のビーファローが死ぬとキャラットがドロップします。
キャラットはレースに参加させる際、以下の4つのステータスが割り振られており、最低値は0ポイントですが各ステータスに対応したトレーニングをさせることで最大5ポイントまで伸ばすことができます。ステータスは測定器を使って確認することができます。
- Carrat_Scale_Speed.png Speed（速度）：キャラットの移動速度。ポイントに応じて速度が5～7に変化します。また、ランダムな確率でスタート時の速さが1ポイント上昇します。
- Carrat_Scale_Endurance.png Endurance（持久力）：キャラットが休まず走り続けてくれる能力。ポイントに応じて最低2～4秒から最高22～24秒まで走り続けてくれます。十分走った後は立ち止まって2～3秒ほど息を整えます。このとき、持久力のステータスが0ポイントの場合10%の確率で3～6秒間その場で眠ってしまいます。
- Carrat_Scale_Reflex.png Reflex（反動）：スタート時の音でひっくり返った時に復帰する能力。ポイントに応じて最低2～4秒から最高0秒（ひっくり返らない）で復帰できるようになります。反動のステータスが0ポイントの場合復帰するのに4～5秒かかります。
- Carrat_Scale_Navigation.png Navigation（方向）：キャラットが目的地に向かって進む能力。ポイントに応じて目的地へ進む方向のブレが最低0～100°から最高0～30°に縮まります。方向のステータスが0ポイントの場合、キャラットは前のチェックポイントやスタート地点に戻ってしまう場合があります。
夜になるとその日トレーニングを積んだものを除いたどれかのステータスが1～2ポイント減少します。しかしキャラットは個体ごとに初期値が設定されており、時間経過によってそれらを下回ることはありません。初期値は野生のキャラットなら5ポイント分が各ステータスにランダムに割り振られています。金塊で購入したキャラットは3ポイント分が割り振られています。
作物の種を食べさせると耳としっぽの色が与えた作物の色に応じて変化します。通常の種を与えた場合はランダムな色に変化します。どの作物の種を与えるとどの色に変化するかは以下の表にまとめています。

Checkpoint Kit（チェックポイント作成キット）は幸運の金塊2つから作成できるアイテムです。
地面に設置するとCheckpoint（チェックポイント）が組み立てられます。キャラットはゴールがあまりに遠いとそこに行くことができずレースが中止となってしまいます。しかしチェックポイントを間に設置すればキャラットはそれを頼りに進んでいくので結果としてゴールまでの距離を延ばすことができるようになります。レース中、キャラットがチェックポイントに触れるとランプが点灯します。ランプの色は一番初めに触れたキャラットの色になります。（通常形態なら赤に光る）

Charlie's Carrat（チャーリーのキャラット）は参加キャラットが1匹しかいないときに数を補う目的で3体出現します。レースが終わると消えていなくなります。プレイヤーはチャーリーのキャラットに干渉することはできません。
チャーリーのキャラットは、1匹目はプレイヤーのキャラットのステータス合計値から3引いた値の75%分のポイントを各ステータスにランダムに割り振っています。2匹目は合計値から1引いた値の75～90%分のポイントを割り振っています。3匹目は合計値の80～110%分のポイントを割り振っています。

Carrat Figures（キャラットの彫像）は、奉納タブから作成したスケッチをろくろに与えた後、彫刻タブから作成することができます。まずはろくろに大理石か切り石か月の破片を置きます（大理石を置けば白、切り石を置けば黒、月の破片を置けば半透明の緑の彫像ができる）。その後に材料として石2つを準備することで彫刻を作成することができます。
用途としては主に装飾用であり、チェスの駒と同様プレイヤーの体装備に装着して好きな場所へ持ち運ぶことができます。

Dappled Koi（まだら鯉）とGolden Koi（金色鯉）はキャラットの年イベントで追加された海水魚です。旧正月イベント期間中のみプレイヤーの近くの海から出現します。
トリビア[]
- メニュー画面でウィノナが掲げているキャラットは、ログインするたび耳としっぽの色が変わります。
- 公式配信「Rhymes with Play」第271回にて開発者曰く、メニュー画面のBGMは映画「ロッキー」のテーマソングから影響を受けているとのことです。
- メニュー画面のBGMはキャラットのトレーニング中にも流れます。こちらも上述の映画の演出を意識しているものと考えられます。
