RIP Timers

RIP has four timeres.Following
Update       30 seonds
Invalid        180 seconds
Holddown   180 seconds
Flush          240 seconds
These timer's start is same time.
When Update packet is recieved at Interface,These timer are starting. 

RIP overview

 RIP sends advertisement periodically 30 seconds
Convergence is very slowly
No active adjacency,no fault detection.
Router that works RIP is detected failuer when timer is expired

RIP is using UDP 520 Port
RIP is using multicast, address is 224.0.0.9
RIP is using broadcast for update,it's not reliable.it can not retransmission

EIGRP and RIP do not learn details of topology

RIP Version

Default processing
 send verion is v1 update
 Listen version is v1 and v2 update

Modifying version

Version is Process level
 example 
 (config)#router rip
 (config-router)#version 2

Receive version is Interface level
Send vesion is Interface level

Veryfication 
 show ip protocols

KeyPoint

RIP v2 is using Multicast for update
It is 224.0.0.9
RIP v2's advertisement contains prefix and subnetmask
RIP v1 has not subnet infomation
